JULIUS CAESAR ~ RESPONSE PAPER

Response Paper due Tuesday, November 22. You must turn in this handout along with your Response Paper on Tuesday. I will use it to give you a grade.
♦♦♦♦♦♦LATE PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED♦♦♦♦♦♦♦
Please write 1 ½ - 2 pages in response to Julius Caesar. As with your response paper for The Odyssey, I would like you to primarily express and defend your opinion of this text.
In your essay I will look for:
1. Paragraph structure: Introduction/Body/Conclusion
2. Your personal response to the play. Consider questions such as…
a. Did I enjoy reading this play? Did I find the language to be beautiful or boring?
b. Did I relate to any of the characters? Did I find any of them to be particularly
striking?
c. Were there any scenes that confused me? Were there any scenes I thought
beautiful or exciting?
d. What other questions do you have?
3. Your defense. This part is extremely important! You can’t say that you think this play
was poorly written unless you give examples from the text and fully explain your opinion.
Proofread
I highly recommend that you proofread your paper before you turn it in.
Did you remember to:
○ Write an introduction?
○ Include examples from the play in your body paragraphs when necessary?
○ Underline or italicize book titles?
○ Double space your paper (by going to “Format,” then “Paragraph,” then changing the line spacing from single to double).
○ Write in 12 point, black font (preferably Times New Roman)?
○ Re-read your paper, double-checking for common errors (such as typos)?
○ Find someone else to read your paper – check for errors, offer suggestions?
○ Write a conclusion?
